Global Gathering 2012

Following my first year at Global Gathering in 2011, it was without doubt the first festival down on my list for 2012, and with the first signs of a long overdue UK summer peeping through on Friday morning, it was once again set to be the best weekend of the year. The journey was a bit of a nightmare, as it was last year, with the shuttle buses being the most frustrating part, but before we knew it we had landed on site and the sun was beating down on thousands of festival goers. Some of the biggest names in International Dance music were on the line-up and ready to destroy numerous diverse sounding stages at the iconic Long Marston Airfield site in Stratford upon Avon.

Parklife Weekender 2012

June has arrived, which can only mean one thing, festival season is here! First up was Parklife Weekender (June 9th-10th), which is one of the UK's only city-based festivals and is set in Platt Fields Park, Manchester. With my sister (Emily Coxhead) living in Manchester, she came along with me to take all the photographs used in this review and provided me with a bed for the weekend, due to the event being a non-camping affair. As far as UK festivals go, Parklife boasts one of the best line-ups of 2012, with legendary headline acts Chic & De La Soul blessing the main stage - I was hoping it wouldn't let me down, and it didn't, not one bit.

Welcome to The Warehouse Project 2012

After many months of speculation and anticipation, Easter weekend saw The Warehouse Project open the doors to their brand new Trafford Park venue, for two nights of the very best in House music. Friday welcomed a stellar Progressive line-up, including Eriz Prydz, Axwell, John Digweed & Joris Voorn, with Sunday playing host to Loco Dice, Claude Von Stroke, Julio Bashmore, Heidi, Maya Jane Coles & many more. Store Street has been an iconic place in Manchester's history over the past 5 years, meaning the new venue had a lot to live up to, but thankfully it did, in emphatic fashion.

Sankeys - Kerri Chandler (21st January 2012)

After a quiet (not so quiet) Christmas break, last weekend saw my return to the club with a visit to Sankeys for the legendary Kerri Chandler. After being a huge fan of Kerri's for years now, it's quite unbelievable that I've never seen him live, however watching him play a 7 hour set at my favourite club in the world was probably the perfect setting for my first time.

The Warehouse Project: Jamie XX Presents (October 29th)

Halloween weekend usually means a huge weekend of music up and down the country; however, you don't get much bigger than one of the most well-known Dance venues in Europe playing host to Jamie XX, Jay Electronica, Four Tet, Julio Bashmore and more, all on the same night. My last experience at the Warehouse Project was overly disappointing to say the least, but I was expecting the music and the crowd to be a lot more positive this time round. Thankfully, that was the case...

Ben Westbeech - There's More To Life Than This

Strictly Rhythm signee Ben Westbeech is back with his highly anticipated sophmore album, There’s More To Life Than This (TMTLTT), which is set to drop on August 1st. The incredibly talented singer, songwriter, DJ and producer who released his debut, Welcome To The Best Years Of Your Life (WTTBYOYL), on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label in 2007 is fully re-energised following the lengthy break. Although he has kept his hand in by doing a few guest appearances and a bit of production for other artist's, the break has done him as solo artist the world of good, as I believe this is the album that truly defines Ben as a recording artist.
