Hip-Hop Classic #9: Stezo - It's My Turn (Chosen by Ty)

'It's My Turn' is the lead single from Stezo's debut album, Crazy Noise, which was released in 1989 on Sleeping Bag Records. He started out as a back up dancer for EPMD on their Strictly Business Tour back in 88 - this was one of the biggest tours in Hip-Hop history and he actually got kicked off of it due to beefing with Parrish Smith, but that isn't what made him famous within the Hip-Hop community. Stezo is actually credited with having the first recording to use the Skull Snaps break, 'It's a New Day', which is a piece of music that was sampled to death throughout the 90's by all kinds of artists, including Alanis Morrissete, Das EFX, Prodigy, MF DOOM, Pharcyde, Heavy D, LOTUG & more. Stezo handled all rapping and production on his debut album, and it was fairly successful commercially, charting at #37 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and receiving praise for its funky production and refreshing lyrics. From then on, Stezo didn't release much more music, and that which he did basically got brushed under the carpet, but any Hip-Hop lover will remember this as a true classic from a very solid album.

Ty: "This is just one of those jams that even the video gives you the good time vibe!!! I think the song is perfect. Not too much, not too little..."
