Someone Like You

I was extremely worried about hearing any sort of remix for this track, especially Dubstep, because there was every chance it could get completely ruined. However, a young man called Sam Eyes has put his own twist on one of my favourite tracks in years and absolutely smashed it. Unlike many Dubstep producers he hasn’t tried too hard to make it’s something it’s not and made the track work in perfect harmony with the vocals. I don’t want to listen to any more Dubstep remixes of this now. Check some more of his stuff on YouTube HERE - talent.

Still Standing

The final track from what is rumoured to be Pharoahe Monch’s final album and features R&B legend Jill Scott. Hopefully these rumours turn out to be false, because this album is huge and proves exactly why so many people think so highly of him. If it is his final release, then I will miss him - he brought something completely fresh to the game and Internal Affairs will forever be a Hip-Hop classic. Go get this next week when it drops.

Angel

Jennifer Hudson is back with a new look and a new album - shame the album isn’t quite as fabulous as the look. I love her, I know she’s been through a lot, but this album is a big disappointment - might just be me, but it’s very bland. Below is my favourite track, which is produced by Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz. This is amazing, but I much prefer the Marsha Ambrosius album that was released last week.

Fought Or Flown

Here is my favourite piece from Igloop’s upcoming 4 track EP, Sunken Relics, which is available to buy April 27th on Cold Busted. Some people may think I get paid to post this material or work for Cold Busted, but neither of these are true, I just believe in supporting a label that produces such quality music. Time after time they release incredibly thought provoking EPs/albums, which are very hard to come by in this day and age. Igloop has created a sound which allows you to get lost in your own thoughts. This is an example of Trip-Hop at its very best.

Finish Line

Here is Mike Delinquent’s remix of Yasmin’s 2nd single, Finish Line, which will be available to buy on May 8th. Garage is well and truly alive - I’ve listened to this about 15 times today. One of the best remixes I’ve heard for a very long time. Mike is a top guy with a ridiculous of talent and there is a lot more to come from him in 2011 - follow him on Twitter.

House Catch Up

I’ve been a busy boy this week, and there has been lots of big House releases (both Deep & Tech), so I’ve decided to do a catch-up post. After the jump you can hear 7 tracks that have been in constant rotation on my iPod over the past few days. I’m gonna do a new mix soon, but here’s more than enough to hold you over for now. Beautiful stuff.

Wareika - Be Real (Pol_On Remix)

El Catrin - Cest Legit

Deep Space Orchestra - On The Inside (The Revenge Memory Warehouse Mix)

The Timewriter - Silkimono

Jamy Wing - Catamayo

Biteofire - Irregular Motiv

James Curd - I Don’t Really Care (Feat. Devin Byrnes)

Just Chill

One of my favourite tracks from Travis Barker’s debut studio album, which features Beanie Sigel, Bun B & upcoming R&B singer Kobe. Didn’t expect much from the album, so was pleasantly surprised with what I heard - a few skippable tracks, but a very enjoyable listen on the whole.

Don't Take Away My Funk

Here is a percolating old-school groove from Bootsy Collins, which features his late guitarist brother Phelps “Catfish” Collins and soul man Bobby Womack and is the first single from Tha Funk Capitol of the World, Bootsy’s first album in five years. Can’t find the MP3 for love nor money, so you will have to stream it HERE for now. Hit the jump to hear more about the album and to see the tracklist, which includes Snoop Dogg, Jimi Hendrix, Musiq Soulchild & many more. This will be massive.

Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer and legendary bassist Bootsy Collins, known worldwide for pioneering funk music with James Brown and Parliament Funkadelic, will release his first new album in five years, ‘Tha Funk Capitol of the World,’ April 26 on Mascot Records.

Collins collaborated with fellow P-Funkers George Clinton and Bernie Worrell on the record, along with an all-star lineup of musicians and cultural luminaries including rappers Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, and Ice Cube; actor Samuel L. Jackson; banjo phenom Bela Fleck; the Rev. Al Sharpton; scholar Dr. Cornel West; and guitarists Buckethead and Catfish Collins - Bootsy’s late brother. Engineered in part by Dan Monti (Guns n Roses, Metallica), the album also features a tribute to Garry Shider, the late guitarist and musical director of the P-Funk All-Stars.

The album’s 16 tracks are sonically rooted in Bootsy’s earth-shaking party grooves, but songs like “Freedumb” and “Minds Under Construction” reveal higher ambitions. “There are real messages on this album that I wanted to share,” explains Collins, whose soul-deep rhythms and layered melodies are punctuated by lyrics that range from meditations on the nature of truth and spiritual transcendence, to blissed-out joy.

Collins is a singularly influential bassist. His star-shaped “Space Bass” and the driving grooves he produced with it have become synonymous with modern funk and inspired everyone from The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Primus to NWA and OutKast. Aside from his seminal work with James Brown and George Clinton, Collins achieved considerable success as a frontman for several groups, including Bootsy’s Rubber Band, which recorded the #1 hit single “Bootzilla” and “I’d Rather Be With You.” More recently, Collins collaborated with Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek for 2009′s “Internet Connection.” In 2010, Bootsy was awarded Bass Player Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

More album details and tour dates will soon be announced.
