2Pac & Biggie - Otis (Freestyle from Heaven)

Even though the vocals don't really match the beat, this is still amazing. R.I.P. to two true Hip-Hop legends - miss these guys.

Yelawolf - Gangsta Of Love (Feat. CyHi Da Prynce)

Here is the lead single off Yelawolf's Shady debut, Radioactive, which is due out September 27th. If this is anything to go by, then the album will be one to look out for. CyHi on top form as ever.

Limp Bizkit - Shark Attack

My favourite track from Limp Bizkit's long overdue sixth studio album, Gold Cobra, which is their first release since 2005. This album, due June 28th, sees the group back to their vicious best, mixing elements of Rock and Rap in a way that only they can. 14 years deep, and they are still Rollin'.

P Money & Blacks - Gassed On A Riddem x Madness (Feat. Lauren Mason & Jammer)

Here are my two favourite tracks from P Money & Blacks' collaborative mixtape, Blacks & P, which was released yesterday on iTunes and is currently sitting top of the Hip-Hop/Rap chart. Not many Grime artists excite me, but P Money does and I find it refreshing how he has embraced Dubstep and created a whole new sound that cannot be touched by any other MC - Blacks is the perfect partner in crime for him too, spitting solid bars from start to finish. Get all 21 tracks right NOW, you won't regret it.

Tyler, The Creator - She (Feat. Frank Ocean) x Nightmare

Now I had a bit of a Twitter rant about Odd Future the other day, but thought I would save my true opinions until I had heard Tyler's new album, Goblin. Having listened to it twice now, my thoughts haven't changed much. I love what they're doing for the game, but a lot of it is purely hype and the fact that it's a bunch of young men not caring about anything, or anyone. Tyler is a decent rapper, but the beats (bar a couple) are not for me and throughout the album there is far too much swearing. It's not like I'm against swearing, especially in Hip-Hop, but when you're using "fuck" every other word, then I'm worrying for you as a lyricist. The album is pretty enjoyable (was more enjoyable than expected if anything), and I'm sure I will be listening to it more over the next few weeks, but I don't think it's anything to get overly excited about (just like his debut album). I'm sure it will go down as a piece of history, but I really don't think it has the crudentials to be classed as a classic. Below are the two stand out tracks for me (Frank Ocean is exceptional), but Yonkers still steals the show.

Odd Future became boring as quickly as Charlie Sheen did, unfortunately.

Understand Rap

Listening to rap music in front of parents/grandparents/other old heads has always been an awkward experience. They start with questions about “rolling papers” and “flippin bricks”, then it’s “shawty bopping”, and before you know if you’re getting lectured on safe sex practices. Well, thanks to a former pharmaceutical report writer, we now have a reference book to help smooth the situation over. Mr. Buckholz’s new book, Understand Rap: Explanations of Confusing Rap Lyrics You & Your Grandma Can Understand, contains decipherings under ten different categories, including Fashion, Crime/Weapons, and Insults. There is an excerpt from the book after the jump.

“We pop them toasters”

Lyric from song: “The Gambler”

On album: “Man vs Machine”

By artist: “Xzibit”

Translation: ” We squeeze the triggers of guns as casually as if we were attempting to discharge bread from a kitchen appliance before it had reached the level of warmth and crispness associated with the setting we had selected.”

This book is perfect coffee table reading material, and it’s available on Amazon for only £4.36. Bargain.
