Beats, Rhymes & House

So yeah, here is the first mix to be done on the new mixer that I got for my birthday (Numark Mixtrack Pro). Granted it’s not perfect, but there is a significant improvement in the standard of mixing compared the mixes that used to be made on my laptop. This is something that I love and something that interests me massively, so I’m sure it will be taken more seriously after I’ve left Uni, but for now this is purely for fun. New year, new start and all that. Hope you enjoy it, and feedback would be massively appreciated. All about the groove baby. Tracklist after the jump and the cover is by Will Prince.

1. Skinnyman - Little Man, Part 1
2. Groovefinder - All This Love (Richard Earnshaw 2010 Remix)
3. Gramophonedzie - Out of My Head (Libex Remix)
4. Onno - The Boy Who Drunk Too Much (Original Mix)
5. Craig Hamilton - Boogie
6. Stars On 45 - Stars on 45 (Addy Van Der Zwan Remix)
7. Supernova - Beat Me Back (Original Mix)
8. Loleatta Holloway - Dreamin (Pol_On Edit)
9. David Amo & Julio Navas - Happy End (Roy Rosenfeld Remix)
10. Bastian Van Shield - Billie Was Here (Umek & Jay Lumen Remix)
11. Jet Project - U Know
12. Burns & Fred Falke - Y.S.L.M (Treasure Fingers Remix)
13. David Herrero - Spanish Lick (Original Mix)
14. Bucketheads - The Bomb (hausJacker Remix)
15. DJ Spinna - Music In Me (Feat. Shaun Escoffery)
16. Crazibiza - My Lips (Original Mix)
17. David Spritz - Time to Space (Jorgensen Remix)
18. Stefano Noferini - Disco Revenge (Original Mix)
19. Maya Jane Coles - Rugged

ENJOY & PASS IT ON!

P.S. Excuse the track jumping @ 3:36 - that didn’t happen during the mix, and I can’t understand why it’s come out on the recording.

Sing!

Here is the title track from John Roman’s first EP, Sing!, which was released this weekend on Idiot House Records. Heard this on his ‘Reclusion’ mix last summer, and have been looking forward to its release ever since. You can get it now on Beatport, along with a sick Acid Beats remix. Big electro/house tune.

Gettin Nowhere

Got sent the remixes for Magnetic Man’s latest single last week, and was blown away by all 3. Breakage & Skream both smashed it, but this Soul mix by Yoruba is an amazing take on the track. I love John.

Catz N Dogz

Polish duo Catz N Dogz released their latest podcast/mix for Resident Advisor earlier today. For this very special mix they have reached right to the back of their record shelves in order to present the length of breadth of their house music interests. These are two of the most talented men in music right now. Interview and tracklist after the jump. Listen and download the podcast HERE.

What have you been up to recently?

The main thing is that we are in the middle of an album tour, playing DJ sets, playing live all over the world. We are kinda workaholics so we do everything at the same time. Right now we have couple of residences in Polish clubs and one at Berlin’s Farbferhnseher, where from time to time we invite friends to play.

We’re working on our label, Pets Recordings, (signing new artists, remixes and the new website is online now). We also want to do some videos. After the album we are already focusing on some new stuff that will come out and, of course, a lot of edits. Oh, and there will be album remixes coming out as well. (Carl Craig, Sect, Julio Bashmore.)

How and where was the mix recorded?

The mix was recorded in Ableton during our travels but we first ripped a lot of our old vinyl. Actually the biggest amount of time that we spend doing this mix was the track selection.

Can you tell us a bit more about the mix?

We wanted to do a mix that includes the whole spectrum of music that we play at parties. We play big room parties but small private venues in Berlin and in Poland as well. For us the biggest fun is to play various stuff.

How healthy would you say the electronic music scene is in Poland currently?

It’s a very difficult question… There are a lot of cool parties in various locations. If you want to party you should visit Warsaw, Poznan, Krakow and Wroclaw. Clubs have better soundsystems than a few years back and line-ups are cool. The best are festivals in the summertime: Audioriver, Opener, Boogie Brain, Tauron, Unsound and many more. We’re very happy that there are more and more new producers and the quality is OK. Some people still produce only for their friends and they don’t want to release it because they are too shy. This is one of the reasons why we started Pets.

Your recent album featured a dubstep track in “Only for The Moment”: is this a genre you will look to explore more thoroughly in the future?

We are working right now on a new project but we can’t say anything more because we don’t know exactly what it is until it’s finished. [laughs]

What are you up to next?

Increasing workoholizm.
