Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 6:18PM When I first clicked play I wasn't sold on this, but as the song progressed, I fell in love a bit. Gramatik is one of my favourite producers of all-time, and although his style has gone away from the music I adore, the second half of this is classic Gram, under a new alias.

Back in 2006 when he was still rapping, Slovenian producer Gramatik sampled 'Don't Let Me Down' by The Beatles, over which he later recorded lyrics. He has revisited the track again in 2012, removing the raps and adding lots of other live instruments, synths and samples to create a wonderful instrumental Hip-Hop jam. One of my favourite producers in the world for the past few years, he never fails.

So, after leaving Cold Busted and joining up with Pretty Lights, Gramatik is back with a new release entitled Beatz & Pieces Vol. 1. As Gramatik explains, "The Beatz & Pieces series comes as a successor to the popular Street Bangerz series which was my first work as a producer. I never really considered these volumes to be albums. I always looked at them as hip-hop beats on steroids. They are still raw, sample based beats, but with evolved arrangements and wrapped in a fine layer of live instrumentation. And the reason I started adding live instruments is because I felt that classic hip-hop beats without vocals lose me after two minutes. I want to keep the listener through the whole track!". This guy is one of my favourite producers in the world, and I believe his sampling style is the most unique and refreshing around right now. He never fails me, and even though I was sad to see him leave CB, this is up to the high standard that I have come to expect from him over the past 3/4 years. Slovenian Hip-Hop beats are cool.

On Twitter the other day I said that I had listened to the most forward thinking album of 2010. No Shortcuts by Gramatik was that album, which has a completely new and different sound to anything he has ever done previously. Dubstep, to be precise. Here is my favourite track from the album, which samples one of the all time classics. He’s absolutely smashed it. Album is out September 21st on Cold Busted.

Gramatik’s remix of Vitamin D’s ‘No Love For Hard Times’, which will be featured on the Hard Times Remix album that is going to be released on September 15th. Not even funny how good the material is that Cold Busted are releasing at the moment.

My favourite remix of Gramatik’s new single, Dungeon Sound, which will be released on August 30th. Dark, soulful and funky trip-hop. Cold Busted can do no wrong.
