Sven Wunder - Take A Break

Like a cross-between Nujabes, SAULT and Henry Mancini - the best compliment that can be paid to Swedish producer Sven Wunder, whose album 'Late Again' blew my socks off this year. Classed as a jazz-soul album, but you can really feel the hip-hop production inspiration, and it makes for the most calming and enjoyable listens of the year. Check it out here.

Yussef Dayes & Chronixx - Pon Di Plaza

Yussef Dayes' highly anticipated debut album 'Black Classical Music' dropped earlier this month, and it's safe to say it's worth the wait. Featuring the likes of Tom Misch, Masego and Jamilah Barry, the project feels like a beautiful, refreshing and modern take on Jazz in 2023... the highlight for me though comes in the form of 'Pon Di Plaza' with Chronixx. Chronixx said that the song "reflects on the family’s journey over the years from Spanish to the astral realms." - a beautiful song, that will no doubt be a future classic.

Jalen Ngonda - Come Around And Love Me

Without a doubt, my favourite new discovery of 2023. Josh Milan sent this to Louie Vega, who in turn sent it to me. Since then, I haven't stopped talking about Jalen to everyone I've come across. His music sounds like it's from another time, giving off serious Marvin Gaye vibes, all while remaining to sound fresh and exciting. Jalen is the truth... and then some.

Gregory Porter - Mister Holland

The latest release from the man, the voice, Gregory Porter. 'Mister Holland' is a deep, soulful record with an underlying message about acceptance and racial prejudice from his forthcoming album ALL RISE, which will be released August 28 on Blue Note Records. Very proud to have been one of the first to support his debut album 'Water' many years ago and am so happy to see how loved he is around the world in 2020 - one of the best to do it.

Jorja Smith - Rose Rouge

Unbelievable. Jorja Smith flipping a St. Germain classic, which is taken from the forthcoming Blue Note Re:imagined, a brand new collection of classic Blue Note tracks, reworked and newly recorded by a selection of the UK scene’s most exciting young talents. A gorgeous piece of music.

Robert Glasper - Let Me In (Feat. Mick Jenkins)

'Let Me In' is one of the standout records from Robert Glasper's new album 'Fuck Yo Feelings', which features the likes of Bilal, Herbie Hancock, YEBBA, Yasiin Bey and many more. This track features the lyrical monster that is Mick Jenkins, which couple with Robert's forward thinking production, makes for an amazing fusion of hip-hop and jazz. Stream the full album here.

Opolopo & Hubert Laws - Tell The Story (Feat. Gregory Porter)

Opolopo calls upon Jazz master flutist / composer Hubert Laws and the iconic voice (albeit narrating, not singing!) of Gregory Porter for his new single, which you can pick up on Traxsource here. I love absolutely everything about this record.
