Booker T. Jones - Down In Memphis

My favourite piece from the new Booker T. Jones album, The Road From Memphis, which is produced by Jones with help from ?uestlove and Rob Schnapf - the album was recorded by Daptone Records mastermind Gabriel Roth with backing by The Roots. The Road from Memphis refers not only to Booker T’s journey but to the evolution of the soul music he helped invent as it traveled from Memphis to Detroit, Philadelphia and beyond. This track sees a rare vocal from Jones himself offering a first-hand look at his hometown. Real music.

Gravediggaz - The Night The Earth Cried (Katrah-Quey Remix)

Over the past few years Japanese Hip-Hop producers have found their own unique sound; Katrah-Quey is one of those people. This remix is taken from his latest release, Beat Tape Shenmue, which sees original Quey productions alongside remixes of Hip-Hop classics from artists such as NaS, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck and more. If you like this, then you should probably get the album. Smooth.

DJ Fresh - Louder (Feat. Sian Evans) (Hervé Remix)

Last week I brought you a snippet of the Doctor P & Flux Pavillion remix of this track; well now we have the full Hervé rework, which is just as good, if not better. Maestro Knows - Special Edition with Timothy Shieff & Jan Barci

While Levi Maestro was over in London recently he filmed a special edition of Maestro Knows with Timothy Shieff, Johnny Budden & Jan Barci, which provides a unique insight into the culture of Free-Running. Having done a 10,000 word dissertation on this sport I can appreciate everything that is being said about the culture now. I have become a huge fan and admirer of what these guys do over the past year, and even more so over the past few months. Brilliant video.

Subb-an & Adam Shelton - Inside My Head x Quenum - Women Talk About Women

Here is the title track from Subb-an & Adam Shelton's first collaborative release, which was released 5th May on 2020 Vision. Stunning vocals, which help create a simply beautiful Deep House release.

Also released this week was a stereotypically funky release from Crosstown Rebels, courtesy of label newcomer Quenum. A lot of love for this.
