YES YES YES! Mick Boogie and Jazzy Jeff are back with a follow up to their critically acclaimed Summertime mixtape that went down a storm last year. Last year was special, but this is even better, in my opinion. Mick is a legend, but Jazzy is one of my favourite producers/DJs of all-time - everything about this is has classic vibes. On the 4th June, The Roots took to the stage at the infamous Roots Picnic where they performed all of my favourite tracks from their latest album, How I Got Over, mixed with a selection of their classic hits. Then, half way through the set, they brought out Mr. Nasir Jones, who performed 8 tracks with the legendary band. This is a must hear for everyone, so here is the download link for the entire performance. NaS and Black Thought are the Kings.
Here are my two favourite tracks from Chiddy Bang's new mixtape, Peanut Butter & Swelly. I don't think Chiddy is the best rapper in the world, and I don't think Xaphoon is the best producer in the world, but together they definitely work. Xaphoon's production style compliments Chiddy's flow brilliantly, which allows them to create fun music that is easy to listen to. Download the mixtape HERE.
Back in 2005 superstar rapper KanYe West dropped into the MTV Base studio with DJ A-Trak to tell the stories behind the rhymes from his first two albums, College Dropout and Late Registration. Jay-Z did a ridiculous MTV Unplugged session, but for me this is the best live session that any rapper has ever done. This is the KanYe that I fell in love with 7 years ago and this is the KanYe that I will always remember. You can download all 11 tracks HERE and reminisce about how incredibly talented this man is.
We’re in April, the sun is shining and Summer is well on its way, so I decided to do a mix that will lead us perfectly into the Summer months. So yeah, here is the first mix to be done on the new mixer that I got for my birthday (Numark Mixtrack Pro). Granted it’s not perfect, but there is a significant improvement in the standard of mixing compared the mixes that used to be made on my laptop. This is something that I love and something that interests me massively, so I’m sure it will be taken more seriously after I’ve left Uni, but for now this is purely for fun.
