DARKSIDE - Freak, Go Home (Live Lounge)

Nicolas Jaar & Dave Harrington dropped by the Maida Vale studios this week to perform a special live lounge session for Heidi's show on the Radio 1 Residency. Along with this track, the pair also performed 'Paper Trails' and never before heard cover of 'Planet Caravan' by Black Sabbath - you can listen to those HERE. Pretty damn special.

Jay-Z x Nicolas Jaar - Encore (Buzz-T Mash-Up)

Not really a fan of mash-up's, but when two songs have the same title and sound this good together, maybe sometimes it's just meant to be? Buzz-T did a sterling good job here, with my favourite Nicolas Jaar production and one of Jigga's most iconic singles. Vibez...

Nicolas Jaar - What My Last Girl Put Me Through

Young starlet Nicolas Jaar's highly sought after 'Bluewave Edits' album in 2011 was packed full of brilliant re-takes, including tracks by Missy Elliot and The Blow, but it was his re-vision of the Mike & The Censations track 'There’s Nothing I Can Do About It' that was without doubt the stand out. This was released as a 'promotion only' single, but is now being released is an official collaboration between Wolf+Lamb and Ubiquity Records. Pre-Order the 12'' HERE.

XLR8R

Nicolas Jaar released his XLR8R podcast/mix today. It’s a bit weird, and a difficult listen in places, but it’s definitely worth a download - he is a very exciting talent. Hit the jump to find out more about the man himself and see the tracklist. You can download HERE.

Nicolas Jaar is only 21 years old, but he’s already had quite the life. Much of his childhood was spent in Chile, but his formative years were spent in NY, where he entered the world of electronic music and released his first record before he completed high school, on the renowned Wolf + Lamb label no less. These days, he’s actually pursuing a college degree at Brown, but he still finds the time to DJ around the globe, produce, and run his own imprint, Clown and Sunset. Next week, Jaar will be releasing his full-length debut, Space Is Only Noise, so we figured it would be a fine time to enlist him for the XLR8R podcast series. His exclusive mix does not disappoint, as it’s heavy on his own pensive, jazz- and soul-tinged productions, including several unreleased songs and remixes. Jaar is ostensibly a house artist, but this mix explores different moods, tempos, styles, and eras; it even manages to squeeze in tracks from Bob Dylan and Pharoah Sanders without losing the plot. We imagine that we’ll be hearing lots more from Jaar in the years to come, but the man already appears to be operating at the top of his game.

Into The Night

Azari & III and Nicolas Jaar have been two of my favourite breakthrough acts this year. So the other day when Pitchforkast posted Jaar’s remix of this beautiful track, it’s safe to say I was pretty excited. Stunning work.
